Why Wouldn’t Qatar Play the Opening Match in World Cup 2022?

  • by

In contrast to Qatar and Ecuador, Senegal and the Netherlands will host the 2022 FIFA World Cup on November 21, FIFA announced back then in Doha as the result of a draw.

Qatar and Ecuador will play their first-group encounter at Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor at 13:00 local time. The host nation’s team is generally the first to participate in the event.

Following that, at 19:00 local time (16:00 GMT), England will face Iran at Al Bayt Stadium, while Senegal will face the Netherlands (13:30 GMT).

The AFP asked FIFA to postpone the first day’s four matches, which were all on the same day. FIFA did not respond. A shortened European Championships schedule leading up to the World Championships, which are held every four years and were hosted in winter for the first time due to hot Gulf conditions, may have affected the outcome.

Qatar will not participate in the 2022 World Cup opener owing to the Emir’s preparations for the opening ceremony.

According to ESPN, Fifa has chosen to reschedule the Qatar-Ecuador match for the evening. The World Cup officially begins on November 21 with a match between Senegal and the Netherlands, followed by the opening ceremony.

Since the 2002 World Cup, no host country has failed to play in the opening match. On May 31, Senegal and France began the World Cup group stage, followed by Japan and Belgium on June 4, and Poland and South Korea on June 5.

France’s World Cup was a disaster in Asia, where they were reigning champions. Senegal and Denmark eliminated France from the group stage. Uruguay finished fourth after a 0-0 stalemate with France.

Since 1974, France has begun the tournament with a match against the event’s runner-up. For the first time since 1966 and 1970, Germany will host the Olympic Games.

Due to the Emir’s preparations for the opening ceremony, Qatar will not play in the opening game of the 2022 World Cup. Sheikh Tamim desires a large fireworks display prior to his team’s opening match against Ecuador.

The visual effect of fireworks may not be maximum if they are fired off in the afternoon. The opening ceremony will be followed by Qatar vs. Ecuador after France vs. Senegal.

According to Fifa, Qatar will make its World Cup debut following the opening ceremony. But it is after the opening match. For those who are expecting to see Qatar as opening match, you must realize that it won’t take place.

In our opinion, it is not entirely bad at all. Although Qatar is not playing for the opening match, they still conduct it in the first day of the competition. It is a win-win.

Since its independence from Britain in 1971, Qatar’s national football team has failed to make it to a single FIFA World Cup. In spite of the fact that Qatar has participated in the AFC Asian Cup on a regular basis, the national team has always failed to advance to the World Cup finals. Since it hosts the event, the hope remains on fire.
